JW Insights and U.S. law firm Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP jointly produced a monthly and a handbook on semiconductor venture capital in response to the aroused interest nationwide in the industry at the center of geopolitical changes between the U.S. and China.
JW Insights is a leading media and consulting service for the semiconductor and related ICT industry in China. The first issue of Investment and M&A Monthly came out in May. The Handbook on Semiconductor Venture Capital will debut at the JW Semiconductor Investment Summit (JWSS) scheduled for June 25-26 in Xiamen City in southeastern China. JWSS is the largest annual event for the country's semiconductor investment community.
Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is one of the leading law firms active in advising on Sino-U.S. trade, especially related to the sanctions between the two countries.
In his first Editor's Note, Zhang Hao, Managing Editor of the Monthly, said that while the U.S. sanctions are interrupting a global shift of semiconductor technologies and supply chain to China, there is an unprecedented boom of semiconductor investment in the country. Startups are mushrooming in every link in the IC industry chain. It is the best time for China's homegrown semiconductor industry."
Now there are over 100 semiconductor-related companies listed on China's stock exchanges. The venture funds that went into the industry hit RMB150 billion ($23 billion) in 2020– indicating the industry absorbed more funds than the country's internet industry. He predicted more mergers and acquisitions would occur as a result of this invigorated investment.
Zhang Hao said that the monthly would collect and sort out news and trend reports on semiconductor investment and M&A in China and abroad, analyzing major developments and investment cases and updating related legal regulations and governmental policies for more intelligent investment decision making.
Below is the Table of Content for the 1st issue of the Chinese Monthly.
