Chinese aerospace electronics supplier Orbita is to launch an aerospace SoC chip and spaceborne computer project

(JW Insights) Mar 8 -- Orbita (欧比特), a Chinese aerospace electronics company, planned to launch a new generation of aerospace SoC chip and spaceborne computer project, the company announced on March 7.

With total investment of RMB808 million ($115.99 million), the project is scheduled for a five-year construction period.

The new project aims to develop five types of chips: navigation, communication, main control, AI, and general computing chips. It will also seek to create three types of computers: COTS-based, spaceborne image processing, and high-reliability satellite computers. These computers will utilize the to be developed aerospace SoC chips.

With the recent rapid advancement of China's aerospace industry, there is a strong demand for localized aerospace SoC chips and spaceborne computers. Therefore, Orbita hopes to seize this opportunity and expand its product line to meet the increasing demand, said the company.

Founded in 2000 and listed on Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2010, Orbita is one of the earliest in China to apply 32-bit SPARC V8 embedded processor and SoC chip technology. It mainly serves clients in the aerospace and industrial control markets. Meanwhile, Orbita launched two experimental remote sensing satellites in 2017 and five remote sensing satellites in 2018, according to the JW Insights report.
